Careening Cove

Careening Cove is located in the middle of Hassel Island on the eastern side.  Its name comes from it being a convenient spot to careen a ship to make repairs or clean the hull(hauling a ship over on its side to give access to the bottom).  It was the location of a coaling station for the Hamburg-American steamship line during the late 1800s, then part of the operations of the US Navy during WWII, and finally, today, home to some derelict boats and a sailmaker.
